Urgent Survey Request: Help CMA Outlaw 'All Products' Clauses
April 23, 2014
Currently, the California Medical Association (CMA) is in the midst of a legislative struggle to require greater transparency in physician contracts. Representatives of Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and other plans are asserting that plans should be able to require a physician’s participation in all of their products via ambiguously worded clauses, which are often referred to as “all products clauses.” These clauses force physician participation in all networks or products that are currently offered or that may be offered by the health plan and have become a source of great confusion and frustration with the roll out of Covered California.
CMA urgently needs all physicians to take a brief survey to help us win this fight. The results of this survey will be crucial in helping us pass a CMA-sponsored bill, AB 2400 (Ridley-Thomas), which will prohibit health plans from utilizing "all products clauses." The bill would instead require health plans to allow physicians to opt in to each network or product.
We need your feedback! Please share your experience by responding to our brief survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CMAexchsurvey.
It is critical that we receive your response no later than Friday, April 25, to allow time for us to analyze the results before the bill is heard in the Assembly Health Committee next week.
Thank you in advance for your participation. If you have any questions, please contact CMA’s reimbursement help line at (888) 401-5911 or email jwilliams2@cmanet.org.
