SDCMS Speaks Out Against Anti-Asian American Pacific Islander Violence and Discrimination

SDCMS SPEAKS OUT AGAINST ANTI-ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER VIOLENCE AND DISCRIMINATION

March 19, 2021

San Diego County Medical Society President Holly B. Yang, MD, today issued the following statement concerning recent events of discrimination and violence against Asian Americans:

“Discrimination and violence against Asian Americans is a betrayal of our shared values and fundamental principles. It is morally reprehensible and contemptible. Racism has no place in our society. As physicians who care for the health and welfare of all members of our community, we will continue to speak out loudly against racism and discrimination wherever we see it.

As frontline health workers who have been deeply affected by the COVID–19 pandemic, we can say emphatically it is the height of ignorance to blame our fellow Americans because of their ethnicity for a virus. This is a time for all Americans to unite as we work together to overcome this terrible pandemic.

We must be allies. We must reach out to support our Asian friends, family, and colleagues. We must equip ourselves to speak out against hate in all forms.”
