MICRA Lawsuit Measure Assigned Proposition Number. Will Appear on November Ballot

MICRA Lawsuit Measure Assigned Proposition Number. Will Appear on November Ballot

The California trial lawyers’ MICRA lawsuit initiative will appear on the November 2014 general election ballot as Proposition 46. The true intent of this measure is to eliminate the Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act (MICRA), increasing the overall number of medical lawsuits.

I am asking you to join thousands of your colleagues across the state in contributing to the protection of MICRA today!

If passed, the initiative will raise the healthcare costs of California’s state and local governments by “hundreds of millions of dollars,” severely reduce or eliminate valuable medical services offered by community clinics, and force thousands of physicians to leave California in order to find affordable malpractice coverage elsewhere.

Just last Thursday, law firms from across the state contributed over $100,000 to support this dangerous initiative.  We need your contribution of $150, $300, $500, or more to win in November.

This same trial lawyer group is also sponsoring candidates across the state in their bids for state legislature. The California Medical Association Political Action Committee (CALPAC) is working to defeat these candidates who would vote to change MICRA in the legislature.

Can I count on you to join your physician colleagues and contribute $150, $300, $500 or more today to protect MICRA?

With your support I am confident we will be successful.

Sincerely,

Richard Thorp, MD, FACP
President, California Medical Association
