ICD-10 Transition: Are You Prepared?

On October 1, 2014, the ICD-9 code sets used to report medical diagnoses and inpatient procedures will be replaced by ICD-10 codes sets.

Following are the top 10 questions physicians should be asking themselves about the ICD-10 transition:

  1. Do I have an ICD-10 implementation plan?
  2. Do I have an ICD-10 implementation champion / person-in-charge in my office?
  3. Has my ICD-10 champion signed up for one of the two SDCMS orientation sessions being held on September 18 and 19?
  4. What are our training needs for ICD-10 Implementation, and how will we achieve them?
  5. What systems and work process in my office use diagnosis codes?
  6. What workflow and business processes will change as a result of ICD-10?
  7. Do our vendors, specifically our billers, have a plan for implementing ICD-10?
  8. How will we verify that our vendors have successfully completed their implementation plan?
  9. What is our budget for implementing ICD-10?
  10. What are the differences between ICD-10CM and ICD-10PCS?

Don’t Know Where to Start?

SDCMS will be running two ICD-10 orientation sessions, one on September 18, 2013, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, and another on September 19, 2013, from 9:00am to 12:00pm. These orientation sessions will prepare you for a series of follow-up webinars that will assist you with your ICD-10 transition.

For questions about the orientation sessions, please contact Marisol Gonzalez, your SDCMS physician advocate, at (858) 300-2783 or at MGonzalez@SDCMS.org.

To register to attend one of the orientation sessions, please email Jen Ohmstede at JOhmstede@SDCMS.org.
