NYCU May 7, 2019 June 4, 2019 CMA, CMA Benefits, General, Infectious Disease, Leadership, Physician Workforce, Public Health, Regulations, SDCMS, Top Docs 0 TUESDAY, MAY 7, 2019 PHYSICIANS: I apologize in advance for the length of today’s NYCU, but there are a number of important matters deserving of your attention. Since the last time I wrote you, the heartbreaking shooting has occurred at Chabad of Poway. The shooting is particularly tragic for San Diego’s medical community as Lori Gilbert-Kaye, the woman killed by the terrorist, was married to Dr. Howard Kaye of the Scripps Coastal Medical Group and a 25-year SDCMS member. SDCMS released a statement from Dr. David E. J. Bazzo, our President: ‘Gun violence is a public health issue that threatens the safety of our communities. The physicians and staff at the San Diego County Medical Society want to express our grief and distress about the shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue. We condemn all acts of hate and want to convey our support and love for the Jewish community and all affected by this violence. We understand that many continue to feel distress, grief, mental and emotional trauma because of this terrible event. We strongly urge members of our greater San Diego community who are suffering because of this tragedy to reach out to their health care providers as well as others in their community for support during this difficult time. You are not alone and should not suffer alone.’ On another subject, expect to see important emails related to a survey from the California Medical Association’s new Well Physician (WPCA) initiative today in your inbox. The statewide survey begins in San Diego to better understand physician burnout and professional fulfillment and responses will guide future efforts to develop resources and interventions for the betterment of the medical profession and care and well-being of patients. Invitations to participate will include a personalized link, the survey takes about 10-12 minutes to complete and your response is completely confidential. I strongly encourage you to participate and complete the survey. For more information, please CLICK HERE. Finally, voting for ‘Top Doctors’ opened yesterday and goes until June 17. We invite you to participate in the selection process for Physicians of Exceptional Excellence — Top Doctors 2019. The SDCMS leadership wishes this process, while not perfect, to be fair, open and honest for physician peers selecting the top 5% of active San Diego County physicians. Both member and non-member San Diego County physicians are encouraged to participate. For more information, please CLICK HERE. As always, let me know if you have any questions!
