NYCU February 14, 2023 February 14, 2023 Champions for Health, CMA, CMA Benefits, COVID-19, COVID-19 Vaccinations, Maternal Health, Public Health, Regulations, SDCMS 0 TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2023 PHYSICIANS: I recently returned from a trip to Sacramento with San Diego County Medical Society Legislative Committee Chair, Robert Hertzka, MD. For the first time in three years we were able to lead a delegation of San Diego medical students who are SDCMS members to visit key state legislators in Sacramento. They had a very successful trip and were able to meet with San Diego Assembly Members David Alvarez, Akilah Weber, MD, Tasha Boerner Horvath, and Chris Ward, as well as Assembly Health Committee Chair Jim Wood, Assembly Member Jasmeet Bains, MD, and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon. We will be leading another delegation of medical students to Sacramento again next week. These visits are enormously helpful for the students to learn about public policy firsthand and witness the political dynamics between medicine and government. It's also beneficial for these elected officials to hear from these medical students about their challenges and concerns. I'm gratified to say that after spending time with these students the future of medicine is in good hands. Starting January 31, 2023, California Health & Human Services Agency (CHHS) is launching the CHHS Data Exchange Framework. Over the next 3 years this Framework will require all CA physician practices to exchange data with other practices, health plans, hospitals, and others. To help physicians prepare CMA has partnered with CHHS and developed the ‘CMA Data Exchange Explainer Series’ to walk practices through various considerations in implementing robust data exchange. The first in this series provides a general overview of data exchange — what it is, how it works, and what resources exist to help practices along the way. This webinar also includes an introduction to the Data Exchange Framework (DxF), including important dates that practices will need to know CLICK HERE FEB 23, 2023: 12:15–1:15pm, FREE Webinar for Members and their Staff [with Promo Code], $99 for Non–Members, ‘New NP Classifications – What Physicians Need to Know’, sponsored by California Medical Association. Assembly Bill 890 (Wood), signed into law September 2020, created two new classifications of nurse practitioners (NPs) — 103 and 104 NPs — who can perform certain functions without standardized procedures and protocols in California. Regulations implementing the bill became effective January 1, 2023. These regulations set the minimum standards for the law’s ‘transition to practice’ requirements for NPs seeking to apply for licensure under these classifications. NPs can elect, but are not required, to transition to these new classifications. This webinar will provide an overview of the law and regulations, explain under what circumstances 103 and 104 NPs can practice and where, and show how this may impact physicians and patients.
