This quarter’s theme is Harm Reduction and includes information about valuable resources their teams and partners have already been able to get into the community and more that are on the way. Prescribers (i.e., physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, dental practitioners, and pharmacists) will also have the opportunity to provide feedback via a 10–minute survey which will help assess licensed health care provider’s perceptions of prescription drug use and prescribing opioids. Responses will provide valuable insight for the development of opioid stewardship recommendations and best practices for our region. To note, the survey closes on 08/15 and can be found at the bottom of page 3. A couple of additional links that can be shared: OD2A Website: sandiegocounty.gov/od2a Includes provider and community resources related to substance use and overdose, such as data and reports and free naloxone access in San Diego County OD2A Email Address: PHS.OD2A@sdcounty.ca.gov CMA has won a significant victory in expanding the Federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Program for California physicians who were previously blocked from participating in the program. The new program started on July 1, 2023. It provides loan forgiveness for physicians who work in nonprofit hospitals, foundations, clinics, or other health care entities 30 hours/week for approximately 10 years. It will also help many medical groups recruit more physicians to California. CMA has published a guide to help physicians navigate the program. The most up–to–date version of this guide will always be posted at cmadocs.org/pslf.
